Dr. Timothy Pare

Registered Psychologist

In over thirty years working as a psychologist, I have become convinced that the most effective way to help others is through a collaborative approach. When the client and therapist work together to find solutions, the emphasis is placed on the client’s individual perspective and the strengths and successes they have already achieved. My career has allowed me to work with a wide variety of clients, including couples, families, teens and children. At the core of therapy, I believe, is a non-judgemental and compassionate view of how everyone’s personal journey involves overcoming suffering and moving towards self-acceptance, empowerment and emotional well- being. I have extensive experience working with anxiety and depression; including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Agoraphobia. My most recent therapeutic interest involves working with fear; which is often experienced as anxiety or anger, and how it can be overcome once we examine its effects on us and choose to “move towards” the emotion. In addition, my therapeutic approach makes use of the following influences; Narrative Therapy, Couples Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Approaches, Buddhist Psychology, Cross Cultural Therapy and Gender related issues in therapy. Dr. Paré is registered to practice as a psychologist in the Province of British Columbia (#1678). He lives in the Fairfield neighbourhood of Victoria with his wife, Lisa, and has two children, Gabriel and Savannah.
